Jinlong Gong was born in Lanzhou, Gansu Province. He received B.S. (2001) and M.S. (2004) degrees from Tianjin University and a Ph.D. (2008) degree from the University of Texas at Austin (with C. B. Mullins), all in chemical engineering. He was a visiting scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in 2007. After a stint with Professor George M. Whitesides as a postdoctoral research fellow at Harvard University, he joined the faculty of the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology at Tianjin University in 2010, where he currently holds a Pei Yang Distinguished Professorship. Professor Gong was a Vice President of Tianjin University (2019-2024) and now is the President of Tianjin Normal University. He is an elected fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) (2012), the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China (CIESC) (2021), and Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) (2023). Professor Gong is an elected foreign member of Academia Europaea (2021) and international fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering (2023).

巩金龙,天津大学化学工程与工艺专业学士、硕士,美国德克萨斯大学奥斯汀分校化学工程专业博士,美国哈佛大学George Whitesides实验室博士后。现任天津大学北洋卓越教授、博士生导师,天津市能源化工国际联合研究中心主任;国家自然科学基金创新研究群体负责人、国家首批“万人计划”入选者、国家杰出青年基金获得者、教育部长江学者特聘教授、国家重点研发计划项目(基础前沿类)首席科学家。先后入选英国皇家化学学会(FRSC)、中国化工学会和中国化学会会士。分别于2021年和2023年当选为欧洲科学院(Academia Europaea)和加拿大工程院外籍院士。

主要从事多相催化、能源化工应用基础研究,在人工光合作用、烷烃脱氢和CO2转化与利用等领域取得系统研究进展。  围绕能源催化过程中的微观本质问题,从亚纳米、纳米、亚微米三个尺度,系统研究了电子结构、缺陷结构和空间限域结构对表界面催化过程的影响规律。提出了利用催化剂表界面电子结构对催化活性进行调控的普适性方法;建立了催化剂缺陷位的新型调控方法;发现了催化剂空间限域结构能量传递的微观影响机制。先后主持国家重点研发计划项目、国家自然科学基金委原创探索计划项目/重点项目/国际合作项目、科技部863项目、中石油/中石化重大产学研项目30余项。在ScienceNature NanotechnolNature EnergyNature Rev ChemNature Rev MaterSci AdvNature CommunJ Am Chem SocAngew Chem Int EdAIChE JAdv MaterChem RevAcc Chem ResChem Soc RevEnergy Environ Sci等国际期刊上发表论文300余篇,被引用30000余次;申请美国、中国发明专利120余项,其中60余项已获授权。研究成果60余次被Chemical & Engineering NewsNature China等国际新闻媒体、科学杂志遴选为研究亮点报道;研究论文70余次被Nature Rev Chem/MaterJACSAngew Chem Int EdAdv MaterChem Soc RevAcc Chem ResEnergy Environ Sci等期刊选为封面论文刊登。研究成果入选2023年度中国高等学校十大科技进展。曾获全国创新争先奖(2023年)高等教育国家级教学成果特等奖(2022年,排名第二)、高等教育国家级教学成果二等奖(2022年,排名第一)、何梁何利科学与技术创新奖(2021年)、国家自然科学奖二等奖(2019年,排名第一)、首届科学探索奖(2019年)、第十五届中国青年科技奖—特别奖(2019年)、高等教育国家级教学成果一等奖(2018年,排名第七)、天津市自然科学奖一等奖(2017年,排名第一)、高等学校科学研究优秀成果奖—青年科学奖(2016年)、世界经济论坛(WEF)青年科学家奖(2016年)、天津市青年科技奖(2016年)、第六届侯德榜化工科学技术奖——创新奖(2014年)等科技奖励。入选科睿唯安全球高被引科学家和爱思唯尔中国高被引学者。

巩金龙教授曾任天津大学党委常委、副校长,现任天津师范大学党委副书记、校长;兼任中华全国青年联合会第十三届委员会副主席、第六届中国青年科技工作者协会副会长、天津市青年联合会第十三届委员会副主席、天津市第十七届人民代表大会代表。
